  1. hello, is this the real size of your dog?? Where did you get him?

  2. I saw one of these in Montana in Aug, this year (09), it was to protect an emu ranch FROM BEARS, among other things. I had just begun to try to find out what they were, knowing only their country of origin is russia?? I believe i was told. Anyway, urs are truly magnificant animals!! Thanks for the photos. Having seen one in real life makes me laugh at the people that think the photos are fake.

  3. Also, before my brother and I knew about the guard dog at the ranch, we thought we’d scare the people and tell them that we thought we’d seen a bear out near the pens. They just laughed and said, “no, that’s just Dagan,he’s here to keep the bears away.” We were perplexed, thought they were playing with US. After actually seeing the dog we realized, that even if we’d seen a bear that day…………..Dagan would not have allowed it to stay, haha.

  4. Those are beautiful dogs! The Caucasian Ovcharka or Caucasian Mountain Dog is definitely high on my list of dog breed to get; it’s competitors are the Kangal Dog and the Boerboel dog.

I am well aware that this is a livestock protection dog by heritage and hence has elevated protective instincts and being such a big dog needs early and extensive socialization if it is going to be around people. Also people should be aware this is not an apartment dog!

But I am sure it will make an excellent guard dog that can obviously thrive very well in the elements outside.

  5. Hello, it’s a really nice article, and good info.
